Poit Dhubh Mac Na Braiche 12 Years Old, 43% abv
Rich with a nice combination of pudding and grass notes on the nose. There is some smoke and a wee bit of rum undertones on the palate. Well balanced, not complex with a medium finish.

Slight nose prickle at the start then warm pudding notes on the nose. A simple, rich, spicy and sweetish dram with a lot of presence. There was more of a burning than tangy sensation on the finish.

Rich hay notes with wafts of sweet varnish followed by vanilla cream cookies on the nose. Some sea salt then peppers with an oily mouthfeel - very pleasant indeed. The medium-long finish produced a hint of mint. A very well balanced dram.

Don't know why, but the first word to pop into my head when I nosed this dram was "mahogany". There were clear notes of a bittersweet honey and then lots of spices. It had an almost liqueur texture with rich wet spices. A trailing of burning incense accompanied the finish.

Fascinating - The first aromas left me the impression of entering a marshland with a small smouldering fire off in the distance. Then some ginger notes came forward on a light peat background. For 48.9% abv this dram is smooth. It finishes off on a tangy peat note. Some may prefer to add a drop or two of water.

81Compass Box - The Peat Monster, 46% abv
The name does not fit the whisky. There is no monster here. Sweet peat with light smoke and floral notes are predominant on the nose; the palate is treated to soft heather with a significant presence of incense; the finish is long soft and lovely. A great dram at an excellent price.

"A unique blend of 24 selected Speyside single malts bottled specially for the (Speyside) festival." Blended by Ed Dodson, former Distillery Manager of Glen Moray. Mildly peaty with a rich peppery introduction and a short to moderate fennel like finish.
